Legion Tip: Never move your stop loss further away simply to avoid taking a loss. Instead, reduce your lot size until the trade fits within your risk rules.

    $10.00

    Stop-loss distance

    0.00 points

    Estimated lot size

    0.000 lots

Based on a standard XAUUSD contract size of 100 ounces per 1.00 lot. Broker specifications can vary, so always check your platform before placing a trade.

This calculator is designed for planning, education, and risk awareness. Values are estimates only and should be checked against your broker’s XAUUSD contract specifications.

    A worked example

    A $5,000 account risking 2% on a gold trade with a 20-point stop:

    Account balance
    $5,000
    Risk per trade
    2% ($100)
    Entry
    2,400.00
    Stop loss
    2,380.00
    Stop distance
    20.00 points
    Position size
    0.05 lots

The same $100 of risk over a 5-point stop would allow 0.20 lots, and over a 100-point stop only 0.01 lots. The stop distance, not conviction, is what sets the size.

    Common questions

How is XAUUSD position size actually calculated?

Risk amount divided by (stop distance x contract size). A standard XAUUSD lot is 100 ounces, so each 1.00-point move is worth $100 per lot. Risking $100 over a 20-point stop gives $100 / (20 x 100) = 0.05 lots.

Why does the calculator warn me about 0.01 lots?

Most brokers will not accept an order below 0.01 lots. If the size your risk allows is smaller than that, trading the minimum instead means risking more than you planned — sometimes several times more on a small account. The calculator shows what that minimum would actually cost you.

What risk percentage should I use?

That is your decision and depends on your circumstances, which this tool knows nothing about. The calculator flags anything above 3% so it is a deliberate choice rather than a slip, but it does not tell you what to pick.

Does this work for my broker?

It assumes the standard 100-ounce XAUUSD contract. Contract size, minimum lot and pricing conventions vary between brokers, so check the result against your own contract specification before relying on it.
